You can view websites without an Internet connection and archive pictures, videos, sounds and other Net content on your computer. Super Bot makes it easy to create functional and editable mirrors of online sites as well as browse a website’s internal structure and organization. One good application for Sparkleware’s Super Bot is to sanitize children’s browsing by creating a "sandbox" of age-appropriate material. You can create autorun CDs and DVDs of your favorite sites too.

Chuck, decided to start a bus route, with a brand new bus, so he ordered a bus from the distributors of Volvo. When it was delivered he was dismayed to find that, although it had a chassis, an engine, a driver’s seat and steering wheel, there was little else. All the “soft options” were missing. He called the distributor who advised that that was the way it was. Chuck had to build his own body, install seats and all the rest of it. And, as he didn’t have a license to drive a bus, he would have to employ a driver.

What’s this got to do with computers and software?

A great deal!

You see a computer is a piece of machinery, just like an engine. You can go out and buy the most expensive, most powerful automobile in the world, but without the soft options and a driver it won’t go anywhere. The same with a computer. The world’s most powerful and expensive computers, in business, government or the military are, without the software and the drivers, just

USELESS PIECES OF EXPENSIVE JUNK

It is not by accident that Bill gates is one of the two richest men in the world. As a young man he recognized the future of home computers and realized they would all need user friendly software to make them work. He fill that need with Microsoft’s MS Dos, then Windows and other software programs.

Microsoft software, is not, to be frank, the best software in the world, but it is by far the most popular and usually the most affordable. And because it is used on most PC’s around the world, it is almost obligatory to install it on your own computer, to enable exchange of documents and communicate with others.

Linux is reputed to be a better, more robust operating system than MS Windows, but few people use it because there are relatively few software programs compatible with it, and it takes some time to learn how to use it. And yet there is a free version. There are office suites (similar to MS Office) available on the internet free, there are programs better than MS Powerpoint (IMHO), but MS products are so entrenched in computerland that few people look beyond them unless they can’t get what they need from Microsoft.

Why can’t they get them from Microsoft?

MS only makes popular software that will be used by millions of people. They spend millions of dollars to develop a program, then sell millions of copies of it. A flower breeder wanting specialized software to assist him breed roses, for instance, can forget about Microsoft. They don’t have it and they are not interested in developing it. Not for the price the flower breeder could pay, anyway. There’s just not enough demand for it. No demand, no profit. No profit, no MS.

So, what can you do if you need a specialized program? Don’t give up hope yet. There are many software developers in the world who are developing niche software programs. You may find what you are looking for already available in your local computer store or, more likely, instantly available for download on the internet. If it’s not available, you can design your own. Yes, you can do that.

There are software designers available who will take your instructions concerning what you want your software to do and design your program for you. Designing and producing software can be likened to building a ship. This designer can be likened to the naval architect who takes instructions from the intended owner and draws up the blueprints for the ship. The architect needs to know a lot about the ship, what it will be used for (cruise ship, warship, cargo ship etc) and its size, capacity, functions and a whole lot more. Your software designer will need to get all this from you, exactly what you want the software to do, its functions, its capacity, its foundation (operating system) and every minute detail of what you require it to do.

Once the blueprint is completed to your satisfaction, your “ship” needs to be built, and this will be done by a programmer, who writes the code. Once the programmer has completed building the “ship,” everything needs to be tested, every little function must be tested over and over to make sure “portholes open and close, doors do the same, the engines work” and so on. In most cases, this requires a few trips back to the programmer to get bugs removed, until it is finally done. Now, once this has been satisfied, the ship will go on a “shakedown” cruise to test all the functions under operating conditions. In computer software, this is beta testing, where the software is handed to a number of testers who put it through rigorous testing to make sure that it works, works well and is robust enough to suffer a little over use or misuse.

When that’s all done, your software is ready for your use. You now own the world’s only copy of your special software.

Phew! That has taken a lot of time (several months most likely) and a lot of dollars. It may have taken 6 months to a year and cost you upwards of $50,000.00. Has it been worth the wait and the cost? Could you have gotten an existing program and had it adapted to your use? Was there a suitable program lurking out there that you did not find? Was there a way to cut the waiting time and cost? Is there a way to reduce the overall cost?

If you can join with hundreds, or thousands of others, in purchasing existing software, or sharing the costs of having special software designed and built, you can reduce the costs remarkably. This is called shareware and it is what you buy from Microsoft, Adobe and other software companies.

But can you do this with low demand software? Yes you can. You can buy accounting software, medical practise software, engineering software and many other kinds of software. Talk to people in your line of business and someone will know where to get specialized software that may help you.

If all else fails, send an email to mityoaks@bigpond.com and we’ll link you up with a software designer.

The patterns of wind are interesting and take on the appearance of being so complex that many computer software scientists have previously thrown up their hands giving up in trying to mathematically predict it. Yet, we can predict it since we have formulas for much of what we know as fluid dynamics physics, we have laws and rules which are taught in higher math and physics classes through linear sets of equations, yet when we add additional variables and stack the data sets, somehow our minds having been taught a certain methodology of problem solving, rendering us to a conclusion that it is impossible to predict.

Not so, since currently with the use of computers, XML data bases, ESRI software and a better understanding of other complex systems and patterns which we have broken through, we now know it is not only possible, but known that we can predict wind patterns and depending on the number of variables taken into consideration we can be so accurate that we would know wind.

It seems as if many give up just before they figure it out. You see the wind and weather is nothing more than many interrelated yet separate patterns all coming together. Each one is simple by itself, but the huge number of variables make it seem impossible. Thankfully scientists now with super computers are making it all happen and soon weather prediction maybe as exact as looking at a calendar to see what the next day is. Think on this.

Macromedia’s Studio 8 Suite Academic Software Package

Macromedia Dreamweaver

My first choice for HTML editors is Macromedia’s Dreamweaver. It has an easy to use, intuitive user interface and state of the art design tools. With a customizable user interface, you can work the way you need to. Although the student software doesn’t come with manuals, Dreamweaver has excellent online tutorials.

You can design intricate CSS-based layouts and designs easily with tools that allow for quick selection and control of page and site wide style properties. There is a built in graphics editor that uses Macromedia Fireworks technology. Dreamweaver allows you to develop HTML, XHTML, XML, ASP, ASP.NET, JSP, PHP, and Macromedia ColdFusion websites.

It has a cross-browser code validation feature that automatically checks tags and CSS rules for compatibility across all the leading browsers and allows you to configure browser preview for multiple browsers.

One of the nicest features is the Property Inspector that enables quick, comprehensive property editing that makes getting it perfect a no-brainer. This is the editor I use to create and maintain all of my web sites. I have used all of the professional and many of the other HTML editors available and can say that Dreamweaver is absolutely the best HTML editor. Since Dreamweaver is taught in most graphic design curriculums, it inclusion in the academic software package is needed.

Macromedia Fireworks

Fireworks is Macromedia’s answer to Photoshop and is included in the student software package. Fireworks has all the tools a web professional needs to create everything from simple graphical buttons to sophisticated rollover effects. You can import, edit, and integrate all major graphics formats, including vector and bitmap images and easily export Fireworks images to Flash, Dreamweaver, and third-party applications.

Besides all of the normal features you would expect in a professional photo editing program, fireworks includes new interactive design features and the ability to create pop-up menus in the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) format without the need for programming. One thing Fireworks does exceptionally well is batch processing. I use Fireworks batch processing all of the time to optimize entire directories of photographs. I can resize and optimize 50 photographs in just a couple of minutes.

Macromedia Flash Pro 8

Flash is the industry leader for creation animation and video movies for streaming over the internet. Flash creates movies with surprising small files sizes. That translates to quick download times and the availability to use flash animation on slower links and mobile devices and comes complete with tools for video creation especially for mobile devices. Flash pro 8 provides everything needed to create great looking videos. Since flash is being used more frequently is essential that it be part of an academic software package.

Macromedia Contribute

Contribute is Macromedia’s answer to the problem of content management. It provides the ability to change the content of a website without having to know anything about HTML, but does not need all the expensive software and databases that a regular content management system uses. Contribute allows companies to buy an inexpensive tool that lets them provide content without messing with the design. Contribute is a solution that is custom-made for small to mid-sized companies that don’t need all the power of CMS, but would like some of the benefits. Being included in the academic software package will give students an opportunity to see how a very simple CMS system works.

Macromedia FlashPaper

FlashPaper generates compact, fast-opening Flash documents that can be published to any website using Macromedia Contribute, Dreamweaver, or any other HTML tool. FlashPaper creates Flash documents through intuitive Microsoft Office integration and file drag and drop. Create Flash documents that are immediately available cross-platform on any web browser. Compact Flash documents open within a web page, eliminating the need for a separate viewer application. Flash documents can also be incorporated into Flash projects. Adding this to the student software package allows the student to experience using a very handy tool.

Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 Premium Academic Software Package

Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is the graphics industry standard and my choice of photo editing software. I have to admit I love Photoshop. You can create original images or modify photos using a wide range of painting, drawing, and retouching tools. You can work the way that’s best for you by creating personalized workspace and tool settings and customized keyboard shortcuts. You can achieve sophisticated results by compositing images, text, and effects on hundreds of layers that you control by grouping into sets, color coding, and locking. You can simulate traditional fine-art techniques with dry and wet brush effects, pastel, charcoal, and more and even use brushes to add special effects such as grass and leaves. There are tools to improve the color, contrast, and dynamic range of any image, easily remove dust, scratches, blemishes, wrinkles, and other flaws with the Healing Brush. Photoshop can give high quality output by working with the complete raw data files from most major digital camera models. It’s great all-around imaging software. Photoshop is taught in all graphic curriculums and had to be included in the student software package.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is also taught in every school’s graphic curriculum and is another essential part of a student software package. It is also an essential tool for anyone who needs to express ideas visually in print, on the Web, and in any other medium. When my clients send me a rough pencil drawing of the logo they want for their business, I create the logo in Illustrator then import into Photoshop to get it ready for their web page. Illustrator has great 3D features, advanced typographical controls, Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) integration and enhanced printing options. Illustrator will help create and efficiently publish your artwork anywhere.

One of the nicest features is the ability to apply live effects without affecting the underlying artwork, so you can edit at any time without starting over. There are blending modes and transparency effects similar to those in Photoshop software but, unlike Photoshop, Illustrator has intuitive tools such as the Pencil, Smooth, Erase, and Pen tools.

Adobe InDesign

InDesign is the best page layout software available and is the choice of most print design professionals. With the advent of paid subscription totally-digital magazines, it is getting popular for laying out the print like pages of these products. It can integrate with both Photoshop and Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF) file formats and supports the multiple layer capability of Photoshop. It is an all around necessary tool for the professional graphic designer. Although not usually covered in most curriculums, it is a welcome addition to any academic software package,

Adobe GoLive

GoLive is Adobe’s answer to Dreamweaver. It has all of the features that you can find in Dreamweaver and is integrated directly into the rest of adobe products. Personally, I prefer Dreamweaver but golive is an excellent HTML editor and completes the suite for a web designer. Although usually on touched in classes, GoLive is welcome addition to any student software package.

Adobe Acrobat

Acrobat is the number one tool used to create the widely used PDF document format. With its built in security features that can prevent the user from copying or changing the document and the ability to require a password to open the document, acrobat is still one of the leading choices for creating paid e-books. This program is an absolute necessity for a web designer and therefore a welcome addition to the academic software package.

Adobe Version Cue

Version Cue is a file manager that tracks the different versions of the files you create with the graphics as well as some others. It is a very nice tool if you have several people collaborating on a project since you can maintains a complete change history of the files.

If you are a graphic artist, you probably have several different graphic programs gathering dust and taking up disk space on your computer because you probably have one or two basic programs that you use all the time. These will either be the ones you learned first or have come to appreciate over time for either their features or their ease of use.

But, what any serious graphic artist really needs is a complete set of integrated programs to satisfy your creative urge such as Macromedia Studio or Adobe Creative Suite. However, these packages are very expensive and usually beyond the means of someone who is just starting out, like a college student.

Luckily, if you shop smart, you can save a great deal of money when purchasing these products. One of the easiest ways to satisfy your need for high-performance programs is to purchase the academic software version. Academic software packages are also commonly referred to as student software. If you attend any accredited educational institution you can probably qualify for student software purchases which can save you a lot of money. Academic software packages are the same programs sold to businesses but priced so students, teachers and schools can afford to buy them. The only requirement is that you agree to use the software only for education and not for commercial business purposes.

Most academic software packages are designed for student use in classroom environments where thy have access to their instructors as well as other students. As a result, student software packages do not usually include user manuals or any other materials normally included in the “full” boxed retail version of the software.

The availability of free online tutorials (try Googling "free tutorial") can compensate for the student software package’s lack of a printed user’s manual. However, many of these programs come complete with excellent online help files and built in tutorials so there are more than enough resources available for you to learn everything you need to master even the most advanced software features.

These academic software packages allow you to save anywhere for 60-80% off the retail price. Major software companies specifically designed the student software packages to allow students to learn their craft on the latest versions of professional software. They do this for two reasons: to be good corporate citizens and contribute to educating students and for sound business reasons. The software companies know that most people will use the first software package they learned completely throughout their entire career as long as it still meets their professional needs. This simple marketing strategy crates lifelong customers for these software companies.

You will have to prove that you are a student or teacher to purchase academic software packages. All you will need to do is send a copy of your staff ID, student ID or class schedule along with your order. If you believe that you are eligible for the student software discount, contact your school’s bookstore or, to save even more, order it online from an academic software reseller.

If you are a student, teacher or educational institution that qualifies for the academic software discount price, please visit http://www.sprysoft.com to see what is available.

MPEG, or Moving Picture Experts Group, is a jointly working group comprised of the International Standards Organization and International Electro-Technical Commission (ISO/IEC) to standardize the coding of moving pictures and the associated audio in a digital compressed format.

MPEG-2 uses very sophisticated compression techniques to compress audio and video in order for it to be burned on a DVD. You can purchase and download hardware and software MPEG Encoders to burn a DVD.

MPEG-2 is the process needed to encode video and audio information for a DVD burner, by burning the information onto a DVD disc with time stamps. The process of an MPEG encoder for burning DVDs is done using codec’s to encode the video and audio and save it in smaller pieces to be transformed into a frequency space and then quantized.

MPEG-3 is one of the discontinued encoding processes for digital media, and is often confused for MPEG-1 (what we know as MP3). MP3 encoding has quickly become the standard for digitizing music around the world, and listening to it on your computer, laptop or personal MP3 Player. Most people burn mp3 songs to CDROMS, however for digital archiving, some people burn the files to DVD as well.

To burn a DVD, you need a DVD burner, an MPEG Encoder, a blank DVD-R (recordable) disc and the audio and video that you wish to burn onto the DVD-R.

MPEG Encoders can be bought as hardware or software and downloaded to transform and compress your audio and video file into MPEG format so that it can be burned onto a DVD using a DVD Burner. The process itself is quite complex and took a team of specialists to perfect. However, the process is streamlined where you as the end user are only expected to follow short, simple commands by the software to burn your encoded data.

You can search the internet for a suitable MPEG encoder and also for a DVD burner that will best suit your needs. Your local computer shopping store will also have a variety of DVD burners with some expert advice on which products will best work for what information you are looking to encode and burn.

And lastly, when in doubt about which MPEG compression algorithm to use to encode your data, “google” it. Chances are that you are not the only person who has had a question regarding MPEG encoding and DVD Burning. By doing your research early, you can ensure your next burn will go smoothly!

Running Applications in Compatibility Mode With Windows XP, you can run programs as if though they were being run under a different operating system. (This is known as "emulation".) Simply right-click a shortcut, select "Properties" and then check "Run in compatibility mode" and select the operating system you wish to make the program believe it is being run under. This fools or tricks the program into thinking you are really using a previous version of Windows, such as NT, 2000, 98, or 95. This is especially useful for certain games that won’t run properly. Be careful *not* to use this with certain system utilities, such as antivirus, defrag, registry, and disk tool applications.

Customizing the Start Menu Right click on the "Start" button and left click "Properties". From here, you can select the new Windows XP style Start Menu, or return to the Windows 2000/Millennium style one. You can also customize the two possible choices using their corresponding "Customize" buttons. This also allows you to turn on or disable cascading menus and other options that are useful, such as large or small icons and more.

Bring Back Those Desktop Icons After you install Windows XP, you probably noticed that some of your icons from previous versions of Windows you’ve used are missing. Microsoft did this intentionally to help simply and reduce clutter. Of course, for some people, this isn’t the best choice or the user preference. So, if you want those icons like "My Computer" and "My Network Places" back, just open Display Properties (right click Desktop Wallpaper, left click "Properties") and click the "Desktop" tab. Click the "Customize Desktop" button and on the "General" tab check the items you want. You can also change the icons used by these desktop items in the same screen. One final tip related to this screen is the "Clean Desktop Now" button, which notifies you of unused icons on the desktop and offers to remove them if you choose.

Give Me My ClearType Windows XP includes a great new visual technology, called "ClearType" which increases horizontal legibility by approximately 300% and it looks great. Go back into "Display Properties" [see tip: "Bring Back Those Desktop Icons" for instructions] and this time, go to the "Appearance" tab. Click "Effects" and for the second drop down box, labeled "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts", select "ClearType". Click OK twice and you’re all set.

Lock Computer vs. Welcome Login Screen You must go into Control Panel and open the "User Accounts" applet to change this setting. Click "Change the way users log on or off". For maximum security, uncheck the "Use the Welcome screen" option. This re-enables the use of the "Lock Computer" option from the ALT CTRL DELETE menu, but prevents multiple users from being logged on locally at a single time. This also returns to the Windows 2000 style login screen. If you’d rather have the ability to *not* be able to use "Lock Computer" and would rather allow multiple users to logon to the computer at a single time locally, leave this setting checked and also check "Use Fast User Switching".

Copywriters: whether you’re in-house, small agency or even a temp gig-hopper, chances are you’re working alongside designers who use Quark Express. So there will definitely come a time when you’re required to open up a Quark document and make changes to the text. If you’re smart, you’ll realize that the more comfortable you are in Quark, the less of a chance you’ll have of peeving your coworkers by destroying what’s already there.

Quark Express is a phenomenal program that you can FLY AROUND in, provided you know what you’re doing. The tools are there, all it takes is a little practice. Wouldn’t it be great to know you’ve got the edge over the typical non-Quark copywriter? Following are seven Quark Express tricks that are guaranteed to have you breezing through those copy changes in record time.

1. Zoom In, Zoom Out.

Why You Need It: headline creation. Most likely, your job requires you to "pop in" several headlines and subheads on a single-page, tabloid-sized ad. A good copywriter knows that her headline themes shall not repeat each other, so if you’re able to zoom in, type the text, zoom out again and view the entire page, you’ll be primed for a speedy eagle-eye headline review.

How to Do It:

Zoom in: Start with a view of the whole page. With your cursor on the Move Tool (looks like a big asterisk), hold the right mouse button down and drag it downward on the diagonal. This is how you "marquee" around a section of text you want to look at up-close. What you’re doing here is simply creating a viewing window.

Zoom out: (Command-zero) Put your right thumb on the COMMAND (or open apple) key and your index finger on the (0) zero. (Not to be confused with the letter O, which if you hit that would open another document.)

Put these two together: Command-zero for a panoramic page view, marquis around on specific area. Command-zero, marquis. Do it again. Do it one more time. Are you getting the hang of the zoom in, zoom out? It’s pretty handy to know.

2. Clicking Through Stacked Layers.

Why You Need It: most copywriters know the sinking feeling of trying to click a text box in Quark and being unable to "get at" the text. What’s going on here? There’s probably another, transparent text box covering the text box. Here’s what to do.

How to Do It:

Put your left three fingers on SHIFT, ALT and COMMAND (again, COMMAND is the apple key) and hold down. While depressing these keys, use the right hand to click the text box you’re trying to get at. Repeat clicking until you see those little "grabber corners" appear on the box you want to change. What the "chord" does here is allow you to click down through the layers and get to the text box to make your edits. Be sure that you click the Text (T) tool before typing your changes. When you’re done, just click away and move on to the next task.

3. Moving Around the Page Without Scrolling.

Why You Need It: Sure you can scroll, but who wants to wait for the page view to catch up with a redraw? An easier method for "scooting" around in your Quark document follows.

How to Do It:

Click the Move tool and then "zoom out" for a view of the entire document. (See Tip 1 if you don’t know how to do this.) With your left hand, press the COMMAND key and keep it engaged. You’ll notice that the cursor has changed to a little "hand-grabber." Drag the mouse in any direction, and the page moves with you. Pretty cool, eh?

4. Duplicate Text Box.

Why You Need It: You may want to type a new headline into a designed group of text boxes, but you’re afraid to mess up the design. So rather than destroy what the poor artist took hours to create, you can "duplicate" their text box to get the exact text specs you need to work with. You can then drag your duped text box onto the pasteboard and let them know you’ve placed the new headline there.

How to Do It:

Just click any text box, and press COMMAND-D. The text box will multiply by one, and you will see an identical text box right next to it.

Note: if you want to get fancy, double-click the new text box, change the background color to something flashy like yellow, and then hit F5 to "bring it to the front." Then place your new headline on top of the old one. Be sure to tell the designer you did this just in case he objects or has a better solution. If it turns out he loves your method, use the Duplicate trick in Tip 4 to dupe your new "headline text box," cover your next headline with the new box and type in the next headline.

5. Group and Ungroup.

Why You Need It: Quark designers often use "double" text boxes stacked one on top of the other to create shadowed headlines. The top text box contains text in one color, and the box beneath it contains text in another. The bottom text box is shifted just a skoche. When viewed together, this looks like text with a shadow! You will find the trouble happens when you try to change the headline - why can’t you get at the box underneath!?

The reason is because the boxes have been grouped together. You can see two or more grouped boxes because they’ll be framed with a dotted line. When you grab for one box, they all move together.

How to Do It:

Try this: Click the Text tool. Create a text box and type in short headline using one of the thicker fonts. Now make sure you’ve clicked the box and then use COMMAND-D to duplicate it. You now have two identical headlines. Select one of these, and highlight the text, then change the color to white. Go back to the first text box and position that one so it almost totally covers the white text (but leave a little shadow room). If you can’t get the darker-colored box to sit on top of the white, click the darker box, and hit the F5 key. This will "bring to front." When both boxes are positioned the way you like them, group them as follows:

Put your left index finger on the SHIFT KEY. With the right hand, click the headline. You will see that one of the two boxes will show "grabber" tabs. While keeping shift held down the entire time, click again and this time BOTH boxes will be designated. With the left, do a COMMAND-G. Now your two text boxes are grouped together! You can move them wherever you’d like. To UNGROUP, simply do a COMMAND-U.

6. Show Invisibles.

Why You Need It: Invisibles are a copywriter’s best friend. If you turn yours on, you can see every single space and every carriage return vs. soft return. So if there’s an extra accidental space or unintended hard return, you’ll be able to see it and fix it easily!

Note: Carriage returns and soft returns affect your text leading. If you want to set the leading for one paragraph of text, place a hard carriage return at the end of the first line of text and at end of the last line where you’d like to retain the leading. Any other forced returns within that paragraph should be "soft returns" (press SHIFT and RETURN together).

How to Do It:

To Show Invisibles, simply do a COMMAND-I. To shut off invisibles, do a COMMAND-I again. Easy enough!

7. Shrink or Enlarge Text Proportionately.

Why You Need It: In Quark, you can specify each aspect of your text design including size, font, color and leading for every letter or line. Once you’re happy with the proportional arrangement of your text within one box, you may decide the proportion is a-okay but the size is all wrong! To make every single item in that text box larger or smaller, use the below technique.

How to Do It:

Put your left hand in "chord" placement again. (Press the COMMAND-ALT-SHIFT keys together and keep them held down). With the Text tool highlighted, grab the corner of the text box and either pull out or in, depending on if you want to scale the item bigger or smaller. Notice how everything in the box gets larger or smaller yet retains the same proportions! Now that’s a handy trick.

These are just a few of many more Quark tricks designed to make your life easier. Instead of getting horrified looks from your coworkers, wouldn’t it be great to hear excited murmurs of "The copywriter knows Quark!" from the design team? Of course it would. So start practicing and with any luck you’ll be a Quark Master by next week!

The purpose of one of our projects was MS Exchange handler for processing incoming email.

The basic source of knowledge was this article "Developing Managed Event Sinks/Hooks for Exchange Server Store using C#" by Logu Krishnan, published to the address http://www.codeproject.com/csharp/CsManagedEventSinksHooks.asp, and also examples from Microsoft Exchange SDK.

We utilized Synchronous Events and created the handler, which fires on OnSyncSave event. The handler creates activity record in Microsoft CRM and then removes the message in the Exchange database before the commitment:

public void OnSyncSave(IExStoreEventInfo pEventInfo, string bstrURLItem, int IFlags) { try { if (IFlags == ((int)EVT_SINK_FLAGS.EVT_SYNC_COMMITTED + (int)EVT_SINK_FLAGS.EVT_IS_DELIVERED)) {

ProcessMessage(pEventInfo, bstrURLItem, IFlags);

}

}

catch (Exception ex) {

log.Debug(ex.Message + "\n" + ex.StackTrace);

}

finally {

LogManager.Shutdown();

} }

For Exchange handlers debugging - it is the extremely convenient to use system log4net in RollingLogFileAppender or RemoteAppender modes (for multiple instance of COM + objects). You can read more on this subject here http://logging.apache.org/log4net/ To allow the handler incoming mail removal, it is necessary to give proper rights to the user, under which account the COM+ application runs the handler. These are rights on change of the information in user’s boxes for whom it is registered (Windows 2003 Server: Active Directory Users and Computer -> Users -> Properties (for COM+ application account) -> Exchange Advanced -> Mailbox Rights). And now the code:

private void DeleteMessage(string bstrURLItem) { try {

ADODB.Connection oCn = new ADODB.Connection();

oCn.Provider = "exoledb.datasource";

oCn.Open(bstrURLItem, "", "", -1);

if(oCn.State == 1) {

log.Debug("Good Connection");

}

else {

log.Debug("Bad Connection");

}

ADODB.Record rec = new ADODB.Record();

rec.Open(bstrURLItem, oCn,

ADODB.ConnectModeEnum.adModeReadWrite,

ADODB.RecordCreateOptionsEnum.adFailIfNotExists,

ADODB.RecordOpenOptionsEnum.adOpenSource,

"", "");

rec.DeleteRecord(bstrURLItem, false);

rec.Close();

oCn.Close();

rec = null;

oCn = null;

}

catch (Exception ex) {

log.Debug(ex.Message + "\n" + ex.StackTrace);

} }
